A bride said her wedding day was ruined after friends took illegal drugs at her special celebration - and the friendships have never been the same since .

The Reddit user said she was horrified that her friends thought it was acceptable to consume drugs at her wedding . She said: "So I have some heavy partier friends that I genuinely thought would be able to behave themselves because it was my wedding day. But no. Instead they decided to take a good dose level of hallucinogens.

"Which is pretty par for the course, as we have done for girls' weekends, but I thought hmmmm at my wedding? Surely not. Who would do that? My so-called friends that's who."

She said things escalated when one friend needed medical attention after taking drugs at her wedding. She wrote: "So because they dosed so high one of them ended up in the hospital! And I got the joy of being there instead of with my husband the first day of my marriage.

"I should have set a hard boundary and not come to the hospital but they were both having different level meltdowns so I felt badly.

"But now that I've had time to think on it I'm absolutely embarrassed that I even gave that situation the time of day. I should have left them to deal with it."

In a tale that's left the internet reeling, the woman recounted how her wedding day was marred by a lack of genuine apologies after she had to rush her friends to the hospital due to their drug use at her ceremony.

She vented online: "Anyway on top of that I didn't even receive any half-decent apologies that didn't equate to 'I'm sorry you're upset' not 'I'm sorry I brought dr*gs to your wedding.'"

She warned: "At the end of the day, trust people to behave the way they always have. I'm sure not everyone would do this but I honestly am kicking myself for not expecting this."

The post sparked a flurry of comments from social media users weighing in on the drama. One person questioned the wisdom of continuing such friendships: "Your wedding is a good day to start your new grown-up life: do you want to still be taking drug users to the ER in 5 years? " Another said: "I already knew desire was the root of all suffering but boy did I FEEL that during the wedding process."

Another person commented: "They owe you an apology, sure. But you also owe your husband an apology. What the hell were you thinking of leaving him to go stay with some dumb- druggie in the hospital on your wedding day? Having those people at your wedding in the first place was probably terrible judgment, but that? You suck a little bit here too OP."
