GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV)- The Glyn County Police Department (GCPD) is warning the community about phone and internet scams.

This warning comes after a St. Simons Island (SSI) woman was scammed out of several thousand dollars.

The second scam attempt started when the SSI woman was contacted by a prospective scammer who told her that her home computer had been breached and that her bank accounts had been compromised. The phone scammer advised her to withdraw several thousand dollars from her accounts and deliver them to a courier who would pick up the money at her home to help her establish new “safer” accounts.

Fearing this was a second scam attempt, the woman contacted GCPD which set up a “sting” to catch the scammer which resulted in the arrest of the courier, Linzhou Song of Windermere, Fl.

GCPD officers discovered evidence that these scammers have been targeting people in Georgia and Florida. GCPD is alerting other law enforcement agencies about this particular scam.

Meanwhile, Song now faces one count of criminal attempt to commit theft by deception, which is considered a felony.

This is still an ongoing investigation. Anyone with additional information on these cases is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 912-554-7802, non-emergency at 912-554-3645, or may report it anonymously via Silent Witness at 912-264-1333.
