A recently graduated Perquimans County High School senior is this year’s recipient of the Barry Ford “Giving Back” Scholarship.

Shavoris Lewis, who graduated from Perquimans High School on May 31, plans to attend Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he will study electrical technology at the Nucor Technical Academy.

Lewis was a dual enrolled student at PCHS and College of The Albemarle and had a 4.14 grade-point average.

He was a member of the Beta Club, FFA and the Youth Development Teen Court Program. He was also a scholar athlete, earning numerous awards in football, basketball and track and field.

The $500 Barry Ford Scholarship was established by Ford’s family and friends following his death in December 2021.

The donors’ intent is to give back to students and the community through the scholarship “as Barry did through his commitment to the many years of coaching and supporting the athletic programs in Perquimans County,” a press release from the Perquimans County Schools Foundation states.
