Gio: Why are we assuming that Aaron Rodgers will play well this season?

As the Jets wrap up minicamp (without Aaron Rodgers), expectations are high for a team that hopes to have a revamped offensive line, a suffocating defense, and most importantly, a healthy Hall of Famer under center.

But Gio wonders why it seems like an assumption from the masses that Rodgers will bounce back from Achilles surgery and be back to the player he was three years ago, when he was still winning MVPs with the Packers.

“I think we got so wrapped up in Aaron Rodgers coming here last year and then not getting a chance to see him, that some of the facts about who he is right now as a football player are being ignored,” Gio said.

“He is the oldest active player in the NFL coming off an Achilles injury, and in the previous season, his team didn’t even make it to the playoffs because he was dealing with a thumb injury, and even before that he wasn’t playing that well.”

Gio doesn’t believe Rodgers looked anything like his peak self in his final season in Green Bay, and now he’s two years older and coming off of major surgery. Why isn’t the 40-year-old’s capabilities as an NFL quarterback not being questioned?

“Why are we assuming that he’s just going to come in here and play well?” Gio wonderd. “I think we’re making too many assumptions about Aaron Rodgers coming back and playing well.”
