Brevard County, FL – A tragic accident occurred on June 14, 2024, at approximately 1:43 PM on I-95 at Mile Marker 161, involving two vehicles and resulting in one fatality, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

A 2012 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by a 33-year-old male from Lake Park, FL, was stopped in the inside southbound lane with its hazard lights activated. The vehicle was obstructing the lane when a 2021 Toyota Corolla, driven by a 29-year-old female from Melbourne, FL, approached from behind in the same lane.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla attempted to switch to the center lane to avoid the stopped Malibu. However, the front left side of the Corolla collided with the rear right side of the Malibu. The impact caused the Malibu to veer off the roadway and hit the inside shoulder guardrail. The Corolla overturned onto its roof due to the collision.

The driver of the Malibu sustained minor injuries and was transported to Sebastian Medical Center. The passenger in the Corolla, a 31-year-old female from Melbourne, FL, also sustained minor injuries and was taken to the same medical facility. Tragically, the driver of the Corolla was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been notified.

Both drivers and the passenger were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.

This crash remains under investigation according to the FHP.
