Thousands gather for Parade of Steam in Pocahontas County

CASS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Thousands gathered in Pocahontas County on Saturday for what could be dubbed West Virginia’s most unique parade.

The annual Parade of Steam, in its fifth year, is an event Cass Scenic Railroad State Park started during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

LOOTPRESS made the trip up to Cass to get a glimpse of one of West Virginia’s most popular attractions.

Parade of Steam has risen in popularity each year with thousands across West Virginia and the United States making the trip to the historic town to get a taste of the smoke and whistle show.

This year’s Parade of Steam featured five Shay locomotives including Western Maryland Shay No. 6 which was included in this year’s event for the first time.

The event is just that, a parade of historic steam locomotives showing off to the thousands of attendees watching trackside.

Parade of Steam is held in conjunction with Cass Days which features multiple activities such as an Arts & Eats Craft Fair, music, square dancing, vendors, and a Steam Special River Ride.

Cass Scenic Railroad is home to the world’s largest collection of geared steam locomotives.
