    Several fire agencies respond to Neff Road Fire in Walla Walla County

    WALLA WALLA CO., Wash. - State fire assistance was mobilized for a large wildfire, named the Neff Road Fire near the city of Prescott in Walla Walla County.

    The fire started June 15 just before 2:30 p.m. Fire crews from the Walla Walla and College Place Fire Departments, Walla Walla Fire Districts 4, 5, 6 and 8, as well as Benton County Fire District 1, C&C Farms for Cat and Disc and Water trucks and a crew manning the helicopter for air support, all responded to the area to fight the wildfire.

    State fire assistance was mobilized around 6:15 p.m. as local fire crews worked to contain the Neff Road Fire. It was requested by Walla Walla North County Fire District Chief, Jim Ruffcorn.

    The fire burned around 250 acres at last check and left behind a large area of charred grass, brush and some crop coverage. It also prompted Level I GET READY evacuation orders for people in the area of the fire.

    According to Walla Walla North County Fire District, no one was hurt, no buildings were damaged and livestock remained safe from the fire. They credited the large response and quick work of the fire crews that responded to the scene of both Walla Walla and Benton Counties.

    The crews remained on scene overnight to monitor any flareups. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
