“I’m pleased HHS is investing more than $4 million to support medical research and improve the health and well-being of West Virginians across the Mountain State. The investments announced today will advance critical vision research at WVU and strengthen health services in Beckley and Charleston. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for resources to ensure all West Virginians have access to quality, affordable healthcare,” said Senator Manchin.

    The awards are as followed:

    • $1,943,664: Community Health Systems, Beckley: This funding will go towards supporting the Affordable Care Act Teaching Health Center’s Graduate Medical Education Payment Plan.
    • $1,669,565: Ryan White Title II Formula Grants Program, Charleston: This funding will go towards improving the quality, availability, and organization of health services for individuals with HIV/AIDS.
    • $443,599: West Virginia University: Vision Research, Morgantown: This funding will help with research that examines how visual experience works with the thalamus and visuomotor responses.

This funding will help the healthcare workforce in Beckley and with health services for people with HIV/AIDS in Charleston. The money will also go towards supporting eyesight research at West Virginia University (WVU).
