Brooke Shields Wears Crocs for the 2024 Tony Awards After Foot Surgery: ‘What’s a Girl to Do?’
11 days ago
If there is anything universally known about actress Brooke Shields , it’s that she is an icon through and through. The Blue Lagoon star knows how to make a moment her own, even days after surgery, and such was the case at the 2024 Tony Awards. Keep scrolling to learn why Shields rocked Crocs on the red carpet, and see photos!
Why did Brooke Shields wear Crocs to the 2024 Tony Awards?
If you thought the actress wasn’t relatable before, she shared on the carpet, “ I got my Crocs! I couldn't do this in heels!” Yes, we’re talking about the shoes you can order online for only $50. Shields shared on her Instagram page that after undergoing surgery on both feet, her only option was to sport the comfortable shoe wear.
The actress was sure to show off her iconic look while walking the carpet on Sunday night, posing to capture the Crocs at every angle. And Shields still looked gorgeous rocking the shoes, albeit abnormal footwear for a formal event.
The rest of her outfit was as fancy as ever, pairing her bright yellow gown with a gold clutch, pearl earrings and a bracelet stack. She also showed off a sleek hairstyle which may have been styled with her new hair care brand, Commence .
While many who just got double foot surgery would opt to skip the awards or wear a shoe that is more toned down, Shields proved she isn’t like everyone else. The actress showed up to the event in a bright yellow Monique Lhuillier dress with the matching pair of bright yellow Crocs.
Why did the actress get foot surgery?
While Shields had to present at the Tony Awards, she made sure that her feet were comfortable enough for the job. The actress shared about her surgery on social media a few days prior, showing off her boots and stating, “The feet pics are about to level up…”
Although many attendees prefer heels over flats, or Crocs, Shields doesn’t seem to mind and proved that comfort rules over looks. But even though it may not be the go-to for many, Shields rocked the Croc look because she can pull off just about anything.
Despite having a reason to stay home from the Tony Awards, which recognizes excellence in live Broadway theater, Shields explained she would never abandon the stage. “ Broadway welcomed me when nobody else was welcoming me . I started going to Broadway when I was a little, little girl, so to me it's a part of my life.”
Shields herself has hit the stage in five Broadway shows before: Grease (1994), Cabaret (2001), Wonderful Town (2004), Chicago (2005) and The Addams Family (2011).
The actress is currently the president of the Actors’ Equity Association, an American labor union representing those who work in live theater. The actress shared upon being elected, “ I am so honored and grateful to announce that I’m the elected president of @actorsequity! I promise to lead with strength & compassion, and I will stand up for you and command the respect that we deserve as an acting community.”
Shields has also starred in a number of major movies and TV series. From her 1980s films like The Blue Lagoon (1980) and Endless Love (1981) to her most recent movie, Mother of the Bride (2024), the actress has portrayed a wide range of characters. She also starred in her own series, Suddenly Susan, from 1996 to 2000. Shields has been a principal player in the entertainment industry.
