SOFI TUKKER recently stopped by Audacy’s CHANNEL Q studios to chat with DJ Alex D all about their very busy schedule which includes gearing up for their impending album BREAD which drops in August, their new single "Throw Some A**,” out now, and what they have planned next.

After jesting about the importance of sleep and, of course, carbohydrates, the dance music duo made up of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern , discussed their soon-to-drop third studio album BREAD , an acronym for "Be Really Energetic And Dance.”

“First of all who doesn’t love bread,” Sophie expressed, “but basically everyone around the world gathers around bread, to come together, to share, to come to common understandings, to get to know strangers and family. And also to just get energy, like carbs, pure energy. So that’s what we want our music to do for people.”

When asked to name their favorite city to experience BREAD , and also their favorite bread in that city, Tucker comically answered, “The irony of all of this is that we’re both gluten-free.” Though, both quickly called out one another and themselves for breaking their no-gluten rules.

A rule they most likely had a problem remaining steadfast to, especially when filming the bread-filled visuals for the album. “We haven’t even launched all of the visuals… just the first song and music video for ‘Throw Some A**,” but there’s a lot more to come,” Sophie admitted “Get bready,” Tucker pun-tastically added.

Sharing the story behind “Throw Some A**,” Sophie revealed, “I had chronic back pain for a long time, and I went to a lot of different doctors and physiotherapists, I got a cortisone injection in my back, I tried everything, and nothing was working. Then I was doing choreography for our Coachella show, like we were prepping, and one of our dancers, in Brazilian (shouts out Lucas Hive), and he was teaching me how to jogue a bunda , which is how to throw my a** in Portuguese.

“I was so uncomfortable,” Sophie continued, so bad at it.” However, “over time I improved, and then I finally figured out relatively how to do it. And I found that every single time that I was doing the dance, I would get off and my back pain was gone. And so I was like, I think I have the secret that everyone needs. Yeah, throw some a**, free the mind, cure your back.”

So of course, the duo knew they had to write a song about it. “We were in the studio one of the weeks after that,” Tucker shared, “maybe the next week, and she wanted to write a song about it.”

Their second single, “Spiral” is also out, along with a music video featuring Heidi Klum . “It's a very ridiculous, fun music video in which we have a sleepover. And we're basically celebrating the end of a relationship if you will,” Sophie said. “It’s more like celebrating the next chapter,” Tucker added, “and going over to a friend's house and them consoling you and then you end up dancing around on the bed, the new freedom, the excitement, the typical early 2000s sleepover vibe.”

Letting us in on some unannounced info, before their album drops on August 23, SOFI TUCKKER plan to drop another song that “could very well be our favorite,” they say, describing the song as “beautiful,” “intimate,” and “vibey,” but also “has energy."

Detailing their “arc of energy,” so far as they continue to gear up to the album’s release, Sophie noted “We kind of start up high and kind of funny and crazy, then we go even higher and we go Euro-Dance, and then we're going to kind of dip down and we’re gonna go like vibey beautiful. And then we're going to launch the album on a really fun ecstatic note.”

Making a perfect segue in Pride Month talk, Alex D inquired about how the duo came up with the concept for her favorite SOFI TUKKER music video , for “Jacaré,” which the EMD dynamos followed up by expressing their gratitude to their LGBTQ+ fans.

Before mentioning their upcoming tour, the details of which they didn’t expand on, but we will below, Sophie and Tucker continued sharing their excitement for lots of fun BREAD merch to come, preparing for their impressive lineup of live shows, and more. Starting in September the duo will join J Balvin for a few dates in Australia and New Zealand before venturing out on their own North American BREAD Tour from September 18 - November 8, followed by a 9-stop special guest appearance on the Kygo World Tour , from November 21 - December 13.
