Tonight features partly cloudy skies with a stray isolated shower possible before midnight. Though storms are not expected to be severe, downpours could drop brief heavy rainfall where they do fall. It’s a warm and muggy night in store, with low temperatures only dropping into the mid 60s.

Juneteenth features mostly sunny skies and temperatures once again jumping up into the mid to upper 80s for most – our western counties will once again reach 90 degrees. With dew point values expected to remain in the 60s, we’ll have a case of the muggies to go with the heat, which will punch heat index values into the low 90s during the afternoon. Remember to never leave kids in a locked car unattended, and don’t forget both those that may be sensitive to the heat as well as the pets – provide somewhere to keep them cool, preferably inside if possible! If working outside, make sure to take plenty of breaks and consider adding electrolytes to replace what’s lost in your sweat. We have several upcoming days of hot weather ahead.

Thursday begins our hottest stretch of weather during this hot spell, with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures pushing to right around 90 degrees. Our western counties should reach the mid 90s and heat index values will be a couple of degrees above our air temperatures with some humidity at play.

Friday keeps the heat bearing down on the two Virginias with plenty of sunshine and temperatures spiking into the low 90s – western towns will once again jump into the mid 90s and heat index values over much of our region will flirt with the mid 90s. Beckley has not reached 90 degrees since June 15th, 2022 – there is a good chance we will finally break that two-year old streak this week.

Saturday begins to see our chances for a couple of showers return in the afternoon, as a frontal system begins to shift south. The proximity of this front, along with heat and humidity, should be enough to provide at least an isolated chance for a storm or two with highs in the low 90s.

Sunday will be a bit more unsettled as a cold front begins to approach from our west. With a more direct southerly flow out ahead of that front, an added touch of humidity and heat will initiate scattered showers and storms. We’ll see high temperatures around 90 degrees.

Monday continues the unsettled pattern with scattered showers possible with a front crossing. High temperatures will be cooler with the more abundant clouds and showers around as they peak in the mid 80s.

Tuesday features a shot at a morning shower or two with afternoon sunshine and highs in the low to mid 80s.

Looking ahead in your extended forecast, the heat continues! A weak system late Wednesday into Thursday will provide the risk for a few isolated to widely scattered showers but many of us will remain dry with temperatures in the mid 80s Wednesday and Thursday pushing into the upper 80s by Friday.
