Yesterday’s Nintendo Direct uncorked a lot of information including the return of Marvel vs Capcom in a collection, but Xbox fans will notably miss the release.

Capcom made a massive splash at yesterday’s Nintendo Direct , launching a title never released in the West with the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection (which will receive an Xbox release), and announcing the first resurgence of the massively popular Marvel vs Capcom franchise in an arcade collection format for fans globally. The reveal trailer can be seen below.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 , one of the more beloved games in the series has not been available to play or purchase on modern platforms for many years. Ironically, the title was available on Xbox 360 back when Xbox Arcade was a thing and it had launched in a physical capacity for the original Xbox. However, fans have noticed the lack of Xbox platform inclusion in the official announcement on Capcom’s website and it is Xbox fans’ worst fear, it is not coming to Xbox (as it stands).

Notably, Capcom has skipped Xbox numerous times in the past with their releases. The Megaman Battle Network Collection also launched for Nintendo Switch and PS4 without an Xbox release, along with Monster Hunter Stories (and its sequel). So fans are left wondering why is Marvel vs Capcom not coming to the Xbox (as well as these other titles)?

The reasoning seems to be that Capcom’s “MT Framework for Xbox One is dead” as theorized by X (formerly Twitter) user Jawmuncher . Windows Central has backed this theory, suggesting “Our sources indicate that this is correct. Right now, Capcom has no pipeline for porting older MT Framework titles to Xbox’s modern ERA system, which makes it more expensive to deliver the same titles than it would porting them to PlayStation 4, Switch, or PC.” While a possible solution to the problem could be Xbox themselves stepping in to right the ship, nothing has been said development-wise regarding the skip of platforms, so currently it is speculative at best.

Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is launching at a TBD date in 2024.
