    Jackson County woman charged with intentionally locking dog in hot car

    JACKSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A woman was arrested in Jackson County Tuesday for animal cruelty after she allegedly left her boyfriend’s dog in a hot car.

    Jackson County deputies were called to a residence on Earnest Phann Road and found a dog dead inside a 50-gallon container full of water.

    Investigators determined Marisa Wheeler took her boyfriend’s dog after an argument and locked it in a car at around 9:30 a.m.

    According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, the dog was inside the car with the windows up and the car not running. The owner of the dog discovered it dead from the heat around 4:30 p.m.

    Wheeler is accused of then placing the dog in the 50-gallon tank full of water in an attempt to revive the animal. She was charged with aggravated animal cruelty due to her “intentionally and knowingly causing the dogs death by extreme heat in the vehicle.”
