'My family told me to rename my cat because my sister wants to use the name for her baby'

A cat owner is distraught that her sister asked her to rename or rehome her pet ahead of her nephew's birth .

The woman, who has two cats named Tonks and Dio, said her pregnant sister is making unreasonable requests. Her cat Tonks is named after a character from Harry Potter while Dio is named after Digorno’s Pizza.

The woman said she loves the cats as if they were her own children. The cat owner's sister is pregnant and wants to name her baby Dio.

She received a text message saying her sister wants to name the baby after her boyfriend's uncle with the same name.

The cat owner's sister asked her to rename or rehome her cats . Posting on Reddit , she said: “Two hours later, my sister calls me and just says something like, she can't ever be over at our (mine and mom’s) house with a cat named after her son. It's disrespectful,” she wrote.

The mom suggested they call the cat DeeDee instead. But the Reddit user doesn’t want to confuse him, as he’s already 11 years old.

“He’s had this name for a decade???? I know I SHOULD care more about a nephew than a cat but this is like my kid. I don’t want him to be confused and scared for the last half of his life.”

In the comments, people agreed that she shouldn’t have to change their names .

“Ask your sister why she's trying to name her baby after your 11-year-old cat whenever she brings it up,” one said.

Another wrote: “I had a dog named Jack. When he was 10, my cousin had a son and named him Jack. We never had any issues. We also have an uncle Jack.”
