In 2002, the country music world lost one of the greats. Waylon Jennings was the definition of cowboy country.
Throughout his five-decade-long career, he recorded 60 albums with 16 No. 1 country singles. Jennings had a uniqueness to his music and sound that fans still miss today. However, his son, Shooter Jennings recently shared that he will be releasing some of his father's unreleased work next year.
Jennings was known for a rebellious spirit, distinctive baritone voice, and amazing influential contributions to the genre of country music.
He signed with A&M records in the early 60's before his career really took off in the late 1960s' and 70s'. He found much success in singles like 'Walk Out of My Mind,' and 'Only Daddy That Will Walk the Line.' He quickly became a central figure in what was known as the Outlaw County Movement which embraced raw authenticity.
As his career continued he saw more success. With a collaboration with Willie Nelson, they released 'Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys,' which is arguably one of the most remembered lyrical country song of all time. These contributions led to many grammy awards and an induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001.
Waylon Jennings' legacy lives on through his timeless recordings, influence on country music's evolution, and enduring status as one of the genre's most revered figures. Recently, fans were excited to find out that we can expect more Waylon music to be released very soon.
Jennings had many children, and his son, Shooter, is the one that took after his father in the musical realms.
On Fathers Day, Shooter shared on social media explaining his plan to release some of Waylons unreleased work soon. In the post, he told a story of his childhood, growing up as Waylons son.
"When I was young, in the house that I grew up in, there was a room that was always locked. The 'storage room' is what my parents call it. I have vivid memories of dozens of grey boxes in cubby holes with notes written in marker on the outside. I knew what was in those boxes was my dad's work."

Shooter then goes on to explain the timeline of the records. After his dad's passing in 2002 they were still in storage. In 2008 and 2014 they were transferred to digital drives for safe keeping. He explained that what they found when listening to them was more than just a few unreleased songs, but treasures of his beloved father.
He said, "What I found was a massive historical documentation of a man, and a band, with an incredible friendship, work ethic, and deep passion for playing and recording music. What I found was way beyond my wildest fantasies."
He continued his post by announcing the big news. It read, "I'm in possession of treasure trove of previously unheard full band, Waylon Jennings multi-tracked recordings from the 70s' and early 80s' and I have begun preparing the material to be mixed right here in Snake Mountain on this beautiful 1976 Demedio Custom API console. These are not demos, these are not unfinished, but they will take some time to explore, prepare and mix, but you have something to look forward too."
Shooter ended his post with, "There will be new, classic Waylon Jennings music in 2025... stay tuned..."
