What is Batman: Caped Crusader about?
“In the series, the corrupt outnumber the good as criminals run rampant and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear in Gotham City,” the description of the series reads. “Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human—the Batman. His one-man crusade for justice attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications.”
Originally announced in 2021 as an HBO Max series before it was acquired by Amazon Prime Video in 2023, Batman: Caped Crusader is executive produced by Batman: The Animated Series co-creator Bruce Timm. J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves, Ed Brubaker, James Tucker, Daniel Pipski, Rachel Rusch Rich, and Sam Register serve as executive producers alongside Timm.
“Bruce Wayne is the mask. He’s the secret identity. He’s the invention. Batman is the actual character, the actual guy,” Linklater said of Batman: Caped Crusader. “It’s set in the ’40s, [so I just thought of] how Batman would try to play himself off as a playboy socialite. I think I just tried to swing and swing and swing until I made contact with something.”
Batman: Caped Crusader premieres on Prime Video on August 1, 2024.
