    Three area softball players honored by KSCA

    Molly Abney of Garrard County was named the 12th Region Player of the Year by the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association.

    Abney, a senior, batted .407 for Garrard this season with four home runs, 23 RBIs and 21 stolen bases in 22 attempts.

    She is one of three local players to receive recognition from the KSCA.

    Cambry Cheek of Boyle County was named to the KSCA All-State second team after batting .356 with 10 home runs and 27 RBIs.

    Abney received honorable mention on the All-State team.

    Emily Hounshell of Garrard was chosen to play for the East Juniors team in the Kentucky East-West All-Star games Saturday and Sunday in Bowling Green. Hounshell was 8-5 with a 3.73 earned-run average and 104 strikeouts in 76 innings, and she batted .439 with 11 doubles.
