    Legion baseball June 10-19

    Below are summaries of Local Legion baseball games between June 10-June 19, compiled by Nick Tabatt.

    Pierz starts season against Cold Spring and Sartell

    The Pierz Legion baseball season is underway starting with its first game against Cold Spring Monday, June 10. Pierz fell 8-2.

    Cold Spring scored its first five runs in the bottom of the third inning, scored two in the fifth inning and one more in the sixth. Pierz’s two runs were made in the top of the sixth and seventh innings.

    Those who scored runs for the team were Weston Woitalla and Joey Stuckmayer. Reese Young and Nathan Solinger both earned an RBI.

    Pierz hosted Sartell Thursday, June 18. Both teams went toe-to-toe, with Sartell winning in the end, 4-3.

    Young pitched six innings, throwing nine strikeouts. Stuckmayer and Kruschek also threw two strikeouts on the mound. Both teams had six errors and Sartell had one error.

    Little Falls beats 76ers

    The Little Falls American Legion Baseball team won its first game of the season, defeating the St. Cloud 76ers 7-6 Wednesday, June 19.

    The 76ers led 6-2 after four innings, but Little Falls caught up in the fifth and sixth innings with a total of five runs. This includes Garrett Lindberg capping off the team’s score with a run at the bottom of the seventh, thanks to a double out by Carter Gwost

    Other factors to Little Falls’ win was Charlie Smieja going 1-1 at the plate, earning two RBIs

    Upsala/Swanville double header against ACGC

    The Upsala/Swanville Area Patriots Jr. Legion team played a double header against Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Tuesday, June 18. They lost the first one 5-4, but won the second game 13-2. One of the highlights of the game was Hunter Moore hitting a single, which gave USA a 3-2 lead in the third inning.

    USA won the second game against ACGC, 13-2. Contributors to the victory include Gavin Shutter scoring two runs and Calvin Lenners scoring one in the second inning. The Patriots earned 15 total hits in the game..
