    WEATHER ALERT: Chance for showers and thunderstorms continue through the weekend

    CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The 22News Storm Team Weather Alert continues due to the excessive heat and the threat of strong to severe thunderstorms.

    Good Samaritan Law protects kids and pets in hot cars

    A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for southern Hampden County until 6:00 p.m. Friday evening for the chance of storms that could produce heavy rain and gusty winds.

    A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for all of western Massachusetts until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening for the chance of storms that could produce heavy rain and gusty winds.

    A Heat Advisory remains in effect for Hampden and Hampshire Counties until 7 p.m. Friday evening for Heat Index values around 95 to 105 degrees.

    Friday will be another hot and humid day but not quite as hot as it was over the last few days. Temperatures will be up around 90 degrees Friday afternoon and it will be very humid. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy today with the chance for showers and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon. Some storms could produce very heavy rain, gusty winds, hail, and frequent lightning.

    Showers and storms will come to an end Friday evening and skies will be mostly cloudy. It will be a muggy night with lows in the upper 60s. Saturday will be another unsettled day with mostly cloudy skies and the chance for showers and thunderstorms. Highs will be in the 80s.
