Mike Perry has wanted to step inside a boxing ring for quite some time and after a few opportunities passed him by, it appears that the wait was worth it.

Arguably the biggest fight out there for any former MMA fighter that wants to step through the ropes is to face Jake Paul.

That's exactly what Perry will do in Tampa on July 20, as he replaces Mike Tyson following the postponement of his return against Paul.

This is a fight that could be huge for "Platinum" in terms of growing his fanbase and stock, not to mention the payday that he is sure to earn.

However, Josh Thomson did raise a few concerns about how this fight could yet backfire on Perry.

Josh Thomson Questions Whether Jake Paul Fight Is The Right Move For Mike Perry

During a recent episode of the Weighing In podcast, Thomson provided two reasons as to why he thinks that this fight could play out badly for Perry.

Whilst his main promoter, BKFC's David Feldman, has been open to the idea of Perry crossing over, it does mean that his biggest star won't be around for some time after signing a new multi-fight deal with the promotion in August .

Thomson also expressed concerns that a loss to Paul could damage Perry's reputation and therefore his drawing power, which would hurt both him and BKFC.

"Did Mike Perry think this through? Because where I'm at with this is, one thing, if you're Dave Feldman, you're thinking to yourself, 'This is the biggest star I have right now', you're probably upset that he's taken this fight. That's one. Two is Mike Perry, did you think it through? You're gonna hurt your marketability if you lose... Not could you, you will. More people will be like, 'Oh, I just saw that guy lose to a YouTuber."
