ATHENS, W.Va. (Hinton News) – The 35th Annual Homer K. Ball Memorial Golf Tournament took place on Friday, June 14 at Pipestem State Park—the proceeds from this tournament fund scholarships for Concord University students.

This year the winning men’s team was representing Summit Community Bank with players Randy Price, Dexter Moore, Garry Moore and Bob Ramsey (not pictured).

The winning women’s team was from the Elks Club, with players Carolyn Truman, Donna Kowaleski, Sandra Gay and Linda Zirkle.

Homer K. Ball, a Lerona native, graduated from Concord in 1948. Throughout his career, he served as Sheriff of Mercer County, West Virginia State Senator, and Director of the Physical Plant at Concord University. Ball was also an avid golfer. In 1991, the annual golf tournament benefiting Concord was named in his honor. After Ball’s passing in 2008, the tournament was renamed the Homer K. Ball Memorial Golf Tournament.
