DAKOA DUNES, S.D. (KCAU) — Union County Emergency Management is recommending that residents of the Dakota Dunes evacuate.

At this time, the recommendation is only voluntary, but is recommended as flood waters are expected to crest at around 41 feet.

Big Sioux River has reached over 40 feet at Jefferson, NWPS says

If there is any sort of major levy break in the Dunes, evacuation will be mandatory and an announcement will be made as soon as possible.

They are also asking residents to minimize any water and sanitary sewer use.

They also recommend plugging floor drains to keep water out of basements, plugging lower-level drain pipes, turning off your A/C, not using water, and moving furniture to upper levels.
