    BOE finalizes contracts, approves personnel recommendations Monday

    The Escambia County Board of Education met in a special session Monday to finalize some contracts and faculty positions for the upcoming 2024-25 school year.

    The Monday meeting is one of many upcoming meetings set by the BOE to continue to fill positions within the system ahead of the school re-opening. Teachers will return to work on Aug. 1 with students returning Aug. 6.

    During the most recent meeting of the board, approval was given on the annual support/subscription renewals for the upcoming school year with Heartland School Solutions for Child Nutrition point-of-sale, menu planning and analysis and inventory software and technical support at a cost of $15,979.

    An approval was also made for the purchase of Project Discovery and Achieve Life Skills Series from Education Associates at a cost of $22,098, which will be paid out of A-List Transition Grant funds.

    The final action taken by board members included a list of personnel changes and hiring. Those personnel changes include:

    Retirement:

    Jean Chalous, utility groundskeeper with Brewton Maintenance Department, effective Aug. 1;

    Resignations:

    Andrea Chance, history teacher at Flomaton High School, effective June 11; Mitizi Smith, math coach at Pollard-McCall Junior High School, effective June 30, 2024;

    Employment:

    David Bellanger, math teacher at Escambia County High School, replacing Michelle Hunter; Lori Brown, English/Language Arts teacher at Flomaton High School, replacing Jennifer Lee; Jamila Russell, social studies teacher at Pollard-McCall Junior High School, replacing Tristan Fore; Jennifer Kirkpatrick, elementary teacher at Rachel Patterson Elementary School, replacing Carla Dyess;

    Kelly Darby, special education teacher at W.S. Neal Elementary replacing Damien Jackson; Brandy Turner, Pre-K program teacher at W.S. Neal Elementary, replacing Brandalyn Jackson; Angela Thomas, special education aide at W.S. Neal Elementary School, replacing Sheila Hawthorne; Allison Ramirez, special education aide at W.S. Neal Elementary School; Mitizi Flanders, elementary teacher at W.S. Neal Middle School, replacing Monica Blackmon; Karen Layton, Social Studies teacher at W.S. Neal Middle School, replacing John White; Stephanie McGhee, English/Language Arts teacher at W.S. Neal High School, replacing Susan Hardyman. All positions of employment will be effective Aug. 1;

    Employment Changes:

    Samantha Trawick, from kindergarten teacher at A.C. Moore Primary School to elementary teacher at Rachel Patterson Elementary School, replacing Regina Adams; Sydney Garrett, from special education teacher at Escambia County Middle School to elementary teacher at Rachel Patterson Elementary School, replacing Ally Edwards; Sharie Evans, from custodian at Flomaton High School to office aide at Flomaton High School, replacing Judith Goolsby. All positions will be effective Aug. 1.

    Rehires:

    Marilyn Bradley as ARI Literacy specialist/coach at A.C. Moore Primary School; Paula Spicer, special education teacher at Escambia County High School; Deborah Salyers, teacher at Rachel Patterson Elementary School; and Ally Edwards, elementary teacher at W.S. Neal Elementary School replacing Hannah Bumpers. All positions will be effective Aug. 1.
