Musicians throughout Stokes County contributed to an international chorus on Friday, June 21, as part of Make Music Day 2024.

The musical holiday was initiated in France in 1982 as a day where free music would be everywhere, according to the Make Music website MakeMusicDay.org .

Make Music Day has spread and is celebrated now in more than 1,000 cities in 120 different countries.

This is the first year Stokes County has participated. The Stokes County Arts Council sponsored free music events at several venues in different areas of the county.

In Danbury, an age 18 and younger open mic was held at The Arts Place of Stokes. Nine youngsters signed up to perform their choice of songs on a variety of instruments.

The Lawsonville Ruritan Club hosted a special bluegrass jam at the Lawsonville Community Center. (A monthly bluegrass jam is held on the last Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m.). Several regulars attended and the event drew some new players as well.

In Walnut Cove, free performances were held at the Palmetto Theatre and 1889 Taphouse. The RGB Band, featuring Stan Bobbitt, Mike Scott, Tim Parks and Van Gallman, played at the Palmetto. Alek Ottaway performed at 1889 Taphouse.

In King, Dustin York performed at StoCo Provision Co.
