Surry County’s School Board is soliciting community input on qualifications for the division’s next superintendent.

The School Board, on June 13, launched a survey accessible online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SurrySearch2024 , which can also be found on the division’s website homepage.  Hard copies are also available at the school board administration office and each school.

The board will also hold a public hearing to gather input on June 26 at 6 p.m. at Luther Porter Jackson Middle School.

“The appointment of a new superintendent is one of the most significant responsibilities of a school board, and it is our priority to ensure that the public has an active role in this selection process,” said School Board Chairwoman Laura Ruffin. “We strongly encourage parents, staff, and residents to participate by completing the survey or attending the public hearing.”

Superintendent Serbrenia Sims, who’s led the division since 2020, has announced her retirement effective June 30. The board has engaged the Virginia School Boards Association to assist the board with the superintendent search.
