American Airlines sued over ‘uncontrollably drunk’ seatmate who allegedly harassed female onboard

American Airlines employees failed to protect a female passenger from a male who was “uncontrollably drunk and loudly sexually harassed” her, according to the lawsuit, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The Tribune reported the male passenger also grabbed her as she was trying to walk away to find another seat, according to the complaint.

The Cook County, Illinois, lawsuit filed last month also alleges American Airlines employees “victim-shamed and blamed” her after reporting the incident.

On June 20, the Associated Press reported American Airlinesput an unspecified number of employees on leave for their involvement in an incident in which several Black passengers were removed from a flight in Phoenix, allegedly over a complaint about body odor.

American CEORobert Isomwrote in a note to staff that the incident was unacceptable.

"I am incredibly disappointed by what happened on that flight and the breakdown of our procedures,” Isom said in the note this week. “It contradicts our values. We fell short of our commitments and failed our customers in this incident.”

Also, as previously reported by the Wisconsin Law Journal , an American Airlines flight attendant was indicted in April after authorities said he tried to secretly record video of a 14-year-old girl using an airplanebathroom last September.
