Eddie Murphy Reveals New “Donkey” Spin-off Film Is Coming

Shrek 5 is real, and it's happening, Eddie Murphy confirmed in a new interview with Collider — but he also let slip that there's another project in the works that fans may not know about.

It has been almost 15 years since we've caught up with Shrek and the gang, but it won't be much longer until we reunite with our favorite swamp dwellers as Murphy revealed that they "started doing [a new] Shrek four or five months ago."

"I recorded the first act, and we'll be doing it this year, we'll finish it up," he said. Murphy then dropped the news to Collider that "Donkey's gonna have his own movie."

"So we're gonna do a Shrek , and we're doing a Donkey ," Murphy said.

Collider asked Murphy if he was already recording for that project, to which he said, "No, not at the same time."

Murphy also dropped an inkling of when we might be able to expect Shrek 5 to make its way to theaters. "We started recording Shrek [5] , and that's — I think — coming out in 2025," he said.

So, it looks like we'll be returning to the swamp on more than one occasion in the coming years.
