Vogue World, now in its third year, started in New York in 2022, followed by a theatrical extravaganza in London in 2023.
This year, the event transformed Paris into a grand stage celebrating a century of fashion and sports. Directed by Sam Wrench and hosted by Cara Delevingne, the show featured a dynamic mix of models, athletes, dancers, and musicians, highlighting the evolution of style from the 1920s to the present day.
With creative direction by Parris Goebel and makeup by Dame Pat McGrath, the event was a vibrantfusion of past and present.
The event paired different sports with decades of French fashion. Styles ranged from the Roaring Twenties’ cycling to the lycra-obsessed gymnastics of the ’70s.
The show was a nod to the city’s rich fashion heritage, featuring pieces from legendary French designers and contemporary icons.
It was a night to remember, and the powerful Black women in attendance stole the show.
Aya Nakamura
French-Malian singer Aya Nakamura opened the show with a powerful rendition of “Fly.” Dressed in a stunning satinbrowngown with off-the-shoulder tulle ruffles and a high-slit skirt, she mesmerized the audience with her look and sound.
Her performance was accompanied by models, including FKA Twigs, wearing vintage Chanel looks. Cyclists also circled the stage, evoking the spirit of the Tour de France.
Teyana Taylor brought the house down during the 1960s segment, which honored the futuristic designs of Paco Rabanne and Courrèges.
Dressed in a shimmering silver chain-link dress from Paco Rabanne, Taylor delivered a breathtaking dance performance that showcased her extraordinarytalent and energy.
Venus, ever the eco-conscious trendsetter, wore a striking Marine Serre outfit made from recycled tennis bags, highlighting sustainable fashion. Serena dazzled in a custom Off-White dress by Ib Kamara, a poignant homage to the late Virgil Abloh.
Vogue World 2024 was a testament to the powerful blend of sports, fashion, and culture, and the Blackwomen in attendance undeniably stole the spotlight with their stunning appearances and performances.
