United Airlines Pilot Goes Above & Beyond to Give Corgi on Plane a Bathroom Break

There are a lot of things that can go wrong on a flight, but I'd have to say that being stuck in the plane on the tarmac during a delay is one of the worst. At least if you were trapped in the airport you'd be able to move and find distractions pretty freely — and there are a lot more bathrooms available than there are on the plane. And if you happen to be traveling with a dog (which is stressful enough even when everything goes exactly right), that's another big issue: ideally, they wouldn't potty on the plane while you and 200 of your new best friends are stuck there, but what else are they supposed to do?

Fortunately, as we can see in the TikTok video below, this dog's human lucked out when the worst happened and a pilot was willing to go above and beyond for his four-legged passenger.

On Friday, January 21, @alisonwonderland shared a video of what happened during her recent flight with United Airlines.

"Our pilot offered to take this lady's dog to the toilet while we were stuck on the runway for 2.5 hours [because] we weren't allowed off," she explained in the video.

Here, we can see footage that she took from the plane window that shows the pilot and the pup, an adorable little Corgi dog , as they walk along the tarmac together after the deed was done — and then, at the end of the video, the dog's excitement as he got to  join everyone else back on board.

There's no doubt that the pilot was doing a good thing for a lot of people (and one dog) that day. The Corgi's mom didn't have to stress out, the dog got to go potty and didn't have to stress about holding it, and everyone else on the plane didn't have to sit there near a pee puddle.

And this story does have a happy ending. The dog's mom, Katie O'Regan, commented to say that she and her dog (whose name is Lucy) made it home safely. Yay!

    Avoiding Potty Emergencies on Planes

If the same thing happens to you and your pup while traveling someday, hopefully, you'll end up with a pilot just like this one. But just in case you don't, it's better to be prepared!

Before boarding, be sure to let your dog relieve themselves at the very last minute so they'll be good to go before you're on the plane, and know where the potty spot in your destination's airport is and how to get there so you can head there right away.

Sometimes no matter how well you prepare, though, nature calls. Be sure to line your dog's carrier with potty pads, and bring some extras with you, along with cleaning supplies and poop bags that will seal in the scent in case you have to deal with a Code Brown on board.

And when all else fails, don't hesitate to ask a flight attendant for some help. Who knows — your dog might just end up with their own pilot escort, too.
