Black Men Coalition to offer free learning programs in Dane County

MADISON, Wis. -- The Black Men Coalition of Dane County announced Tuesday it will provide low-income learners with free access to online professional certificate programs, in partnership with eCornell.

The move is aimed at breaking the barriers of poverty that affect unemployed, underemployed, and formerly incarcerated individuals, along with fostering social and economic development.

The Black Men Coalition's partnership with eCornell, Cornell University's online learning program, will uplift underserved and vulnerable individuals by providing them access to prestigious certificate fields. Participants will learn in-demand skills across a diverse array of fields, opening the door for social and economic growth.

The Coalition said it will offer a multitude of certificate programs through eCornell, including accounting, business law, women in STEM, and more.

The Coalition also outlined eligibility requirements for its future applicants:

1. Learners must have completed high school or possess a GED diploma.

2. Learners must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.

3. Learners must be committed to completing the program.

4. Learners must be Dane county residents.

5. Learners must have an annual salary of below $70,000 per year.

A press conference will take place on Wednesday, June 26, at 2:00 p.m. at the Coalition's second office space, located at 1 North Pickney St. on the Capitol Square.
