Board denied parole to repeat offender

In a June 13 hearing, the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles denied parole to a man convicted of crimes in Lowndes and Baldwin counties.

Addison McDonald, 53, was denied parole from his 20-year sentence for an October 2013 robbery conviction and a second-degree theft of property sentence handed down Sept. 22, 2014.

McDonald is housed in the Fountain Correctional Center. The board denied his request and did not establish a reset date.

Prior to his current sentence, McDonald served three years for a Lowndes County robbery conviction and six years for a 2003 Butler County  conviction for possessing a controlled substance in Lowndes County. .

Prison terms began for McDonald in 1994 with a two-year sentence for second-degree theft of property, followed by April 1995 sentences for escape third and burglary third. In November 1996, McDonald was found guilty on charges of possessing a controlled substance and theft of property in the second degree. He served almost three years before being granted parole.

The board heard 24 parole petitions, granting four and denying 20.

The board also held 10 pardon hearings, granting six, denying six and continuing one to a later date.
