    Tehama County Republican Committee awards scholarships

    Each year the Tehama County Republican Central Committee offers graduating Tehama County high school seniors scholarships that not only reflects their academic success, but also awards their commitment to community service.

    This year's honorees of a $500 scholarship each are Islyn Bogarin and Hayley Byrd, both 2024 graduates from Corning Union High School; and Jacey Pray, who graduated from Red Bluff Union High School.

    Bogarin, of Corning, is the daughter of Ruben and Mayra Bogarin. She plans to attend California State University, Chico and obtain a degree in Communication Science and Disorders in order to become a speech pathologist.

    Byrd, of Gerber, is the daughter of Ty and Regina Byrd. She plans to attend Kansas State University in Pray of The daughter of Jay and Carrie Pray of Red Bluff, Pray plans on attending Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo and studying nutrition to become a registered dietician.

    The scholarships were awarded to worthy recipients who have displayed an outstanding example of community service and will pursue a course of study leading to a post-secondary degree or certificate from a college, university, community college, or vocational school.

    "We feel that this is one way that we can invest in the future," said Jerry Crow, vice-chair of the Tehama County Republican Central Committee and scholarship coordinator. "It's encouraging to find young people who are passionate about giving back to their communities."
