Picture the wedding reception of someone who would wear a flower crown and no shoes—that’s The Midnight Apothecary. This garden is on top of the Brunel Museum, and could double as a A Midsummer Night’s Dream theatre set. You have to book a time slot and pay for entry in advance, then, on arrival you’re shown to a log or bench that will be your seat for the night. Between the QR codes and strict time limits, some of the magic can be lost. But this is still a lovely date spot—all flaming torches, tasteful draped fairy lights, cocktails garnished with bits from the garden, and fire pits for toasting s’mores. With every ticket you have the option of a Thames Tunnel tour. It’s only 20 minutes and it’s definitely worth doing—the tour guide was in Four Weddings And A Funeral and manages to make the story of this tunnel as thrilling as a Netflix true crime documentary.
