Jersey Shore residents are facing a double threat on Wednesday: severe thunderstorms and scorching heat.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for region, with storms expected to bring heavy rain, damaging winds, hail and a possibility of tornadoes.

The heat wave will continue, with highs reaching the 90s combined with high humidity. This combination has prompted a heat advisory for Central and South Jersey.

The storms are expected to arrive around rush hour on Wednesday evening, with the most severe weather anticipated between 5 and 11 p.m. Residents should be prepared for heavy downpours, strong winds and potential hail.

While the tornado threat is focused on northern New Jersey, Shore residents are advised to stay weather-aware and have a plan in place in case of a tornado warning.

By 8 a.m. Thursday, the rain should clear and temperatures are expected to return to normal.
