Gleyber Torres was under fire on Tuesday night for not hustling out a slow ground ball in the eighth inning as the Yankees were trying to mount a comeback, and Boomer felt former Yankees David Cone and Paul O’Neill were far too light on Torres on the YES Network broadcast.

“This has been a recurring situation over the years,” Boomer said. “This is not the first time that he has been called out…it’s not a good look.”

Boomer felt John Flaherty and company were much better at calling Torres out on the postgame show, and Gio agreed that calling out the second baseman was necessary, regardless of what Torres said about his “very tight” groin.

“If he is trying to play through an injury because he knows these games are important…I would admire that, especially as we crush baseball players for being on the IL for every single tiny injury,” Gio said. “But you can’t go out and look disinterested throughout the entire game. Whether you’re running to first, in the box, in the field, it’s one or the other. You’re either gonna fight through it and be someone we respect…or you’re gonna be someone that is just out there giving minimal effort.”
