An Atmore woman was arrested June 25 on possession and tampering with evidence charges, according to officials.

    Ward

Atmore Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Darrell McMann said in a release that Racheal Ward, 40, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence.

McMann said the arrest came after an APD officer conducted a traffic stop on Highway 21 on a vehicle without a license plate. The traffic stop occurred at approximately 2:40 p.m.

“During the interaction with the driver, who was identified as Racheal Ward age 40 of Atmore, the officer observed suspicious behavior and was granted consent to search the vehicle,” McMann said. “During the search the officer discovered multiple white oval pills that were later identified as acetaminophen/hydrocodone. While the officer was identifying the pills, Ward ingested several more pills attempting to destroy evidence.”

Ward was then transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
