Carragher saw his account, which boasts 2.2m followers, hacked during England’s goalless draw with Slovenia at Euro 2024 . The Sky Sports and CBS Sports pundit was one of many people to have their account hacked on Tuesday, leading users to speculate a data leak may have occurred.
The former defender’s handle was changed from @Carra23 to @XAiPremium after a number of unusual posts were made under his original identity. The account sent posts on cryptocurrency, as well as a number of reposts from the official @X account, although those have now been deleted.
That wasn’t all though, with some users seemingly also receiving direct messages from Carragher , with the 46-year-old sending a message to his followers on Wednesday.
“Apologies for anyone who got a strange DM off me last night after I’d been hacked!” Carragher posted . “It now looks like I’m back in the cess pit of X!”
Despite the inconvenience to Carragher and his followers, the incident did offer some respite from another dull England performance. The Three Lions managed to finish top of Group C despite the goalless draw with Slovenia in their final game.
"Still makes more sense than anything Gareth Southgate has done today," one England fan commented on Carragher’s account. "This has perked me up after falling asleep in the first half," another added.
"This England midfield has as much control over this match as Jamie Carragher has over his Twitter account. Excellent work from Gareth Southgate once again. Why is the knighthood taking so long?" one fan brutally wrote.
