Snoop Dogg is more than ready to cover the Summer Olympic Games.

In a new interview TIME published on Wednesday, June 26, the Death Row Records owner opened up about his new gig with NBC Sports as a special correspondent for the upcoming competitions in Paris. He began by recalling his earliest memories of the Olympics from Sugar Ray Leonard taking the gold medal at the 1976 games to Bruce Jenner's infamous appearance on the Wheaties cereal box. He also revealed how he fell in love with the Olympic games, and why he decided to cover the event this year.

"Why not?" Snoop replied. "Not why. This is what I do, you know what I’m saying? I love being in front of the people. I love sports. I know what I'm talking about. The network is appealing enough to understand that we deserve each other. So we’re gonna make magic."

Later on in the conversation, Snoop shares a glimpse of his coverage plans when he goes to Paris. He wants to pull up on the U.S. basketball team and hop in the water to try his hand at the 50-meter freestyle. Snoop recently participated in the U.S. Olympic trials earlier this week by running in a 200-meter exhibition race. Snoop Dogg celebrated after he crossed the finish line in 34.44 seconds.

During the interview, he also offered his thoughts about Sha'Carri Richardson after she won the recent 100-meter event at the trials in Eugene, Or. Snoop said he loves everything about Richardson's hustle and thinks she's going to do fine in the Olympics.

"She’s living young, wild, and free," Snoop said about Richardson. "She’s supposed to. She’s supposed to be wild. She’s supposed to be everything that she is. The setbacks set up the comeback. I love the way that she’s doing it, the way the team is supporting her, the way she’s got great people around her. She’s going to be just fine."

The Summer Olympic Games begin in Paris on July 26. You can catch the games live on Peacock and iHeartRadio .
