CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Harrison County Commission approved a motion to pursue the construction of a new animal control facility during its meeting on Wednesday morning.

The new animal control facility will be on the same property as the current, and employees will still work out of the old building until construction is completed. After construction is completed, the old facility will be demolished with its original space being used for parking if needed.

In addition to a new animal control building, the Harrison County Commission also approved of a motion to pay the Humane Society of Harrison County $10,000 quarterly for one year to assist with its spay and neuter program. This would amount to $40,000 in a fiscal year.

Even with its current vouchers, the humane society pays approximately $2,500 monthly to ensure all animals that come through both the humane society and Animal Control are fixed.

Harrison County Humane Society president, Frankie Dennison, stated in the meeting this morning that 85% of animals that come through both facilities are not spayed or neutered.
