The box is a hive of celebrity-spotting. Prince William and wife Kate Middleton, Prince Harry and spouse Megan Markle, former England football captain David Beckham and Hollywood actors such as Woody Harrelson are among the famous figures who have been seen settling down to watch play.

There was a faintly farcical incident in 2015 when then-Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton was refused the right to sit with the likes of actor Hugh Grant because the sporting icon had not observed the correct Royal Box dress code.

Fashion fan Hamilton had failed to wear the required suit and tie when he arrived at Wimbledon to take up his prominent position.
