Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark have completely changed the landscape of women’s basketball. The highly acclaimed rookies have attracted millions of new viewers to the WNBA. UConn women’s basketball head coach Geno Auriemma recently shared his honest thoughts on the impact both young stars have made.

“[Caitlin] and Angel Reese are not the two best players in the WNBA, but they’re the two most talked about players in the WNBA right now. If you’re some of the players … you can moan and groan about why weren’t they talking about me when I was here … or you can just appreciate what it is and take advantage of it now,” Auriemma said, via Vanshay Murdock on X.

Reese and Clark have received some backlash from veterans around the league, but Auriemma believes other players should be taking advantage of the increased viewership rather than trying to take the spotlight.

A recent game between the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever had its television viewership peak at over 3 million viewers, proving the impact of both players.

Auriemma’s opinion certainly carries some weight, given his Hall of Fame status in the basketball community. He’s been one of the top figures in women’s basketball for years, leading the Huskies to 11 national championships.
