The city will receive about $14 million in opioid settlement funds, according to a presentation by city staff to the city council.

Health officials have suspended the license of Pierce County massage therapist Lukela Los Banos, the Washington Department of Health reported on Thursday. Los Banos allegedly placed suction cups on the back of a patient's legs on Sep. 23, 2023, and left the cups on their skin for around 40 minutes, the DOH reports. He allegedly tightened the cups three times, injuring the patient’s skin, according to the department.

The SBC has removed another church from it's fellowship. First Baptist Church of Alexandria, Virginia, is the latest casualty in the Southern Baptist Convention's war on churches that accept women pastors. The Independent reports that on Tuesday, delegates attending the SBC annual meeting voted 6,759 to 563 to oust the congregation.

About 80 people overtook Aurora’s City Council meeting Monday, causing the mayor to recess the meeting three times in an effort to bring about order. The council then agreed to extend public invited to be heard beyond the one-hour time limit. The speakers showed up to chide the City Council for not punishing the officer that shot and killed Kilyn Lewis. Lewis was a suspect in a crime which is why police approached him. Body camera footage released by the Aurora Police Department showed Lewis did not have a gun and repeatedly yelled “I don’t have nothing!” with his hands in the air. Despite this, officer Michael Dieck killed him with a single shot from his rifle. Lewis never had more than a cell phone in his hand, the video showed.

Out of this morning's meeting was an agreement to meet with local Walmart managers on a monthly basis to ensure that the city and Walmart are working closely together on reducing retail theft. In addition, they will be participating in a city sponsored retail theft conference, later this summer, between Aurora's major retailers, the Aurora Police Department, prosecutors from the 18th Judicial District, and the Colorado Retail Association to discuss what can be done to bring down retail theft.”
