"I am from Delaware; D-E-L-aware," the song starts. "Corporate tax haven? I'm aware. No sales tax, 'cause we don't care; the water's polluted, just like the air."
That's just the first verse. The woman rapping in the song takes her disdain to the next level in the next few verses.
"From Wilmington to Dover, to Georgetown, then it's over; we don't care if you don't come, just watch your mouth because that's where your president's from.
" First state to sign the declaration , the top choice for incorporation, but 27th in education; the money's not reaching the population," the song continued. "D-E-L-aware; corporate tax haven, I'm aware; no sales tax 'cause we don't care; DuPont 's on everything, even the air."
Seems there won't be a follow-up to "I'm from Delaware" by Slope_Park_Aresonists, as she seems to have deleted her account. No matter, as the song, released in January, continues to trend on TikTok several months after its release.
Long history of 'I'm From Delaware' diss tracks
The "I'm From Delaware" song trending on TikTok is just the latest iteration of the song that bashes almost every element of life in Delaware.
Perhaps the original "I'm From Delaware" diss track came out 16 years ago, and is even accompanied by a music video which is now on YouTube:
And as often the case, the original has the sequel beat.
YouTube user @rokes52 uploaded the country-styled song, which doesn't identify the singer.
"I'm from Delaware, man; I'm from Delaware; traffic's bad out there, man; I ain't going no where. I like polluted air, man, I'm from Delaware.
"I'm from Delaware, man; I'm from Delaware," the original song continues. "They're building everywhere man, I can't drive no where. I got drunk in Trolley Square, man, I'm from Delaware."
Comedian/singer Todd Chapelle released a cover of that "I'm From Delaware" song in 2016:
Although somewhat biting, most of the "I'm From Delaware" songs offer a harmless, humorous and tongue-in-cheek look at life in the First State.
Most hated states
But, maybe Delawareans don’t really hate the state that much.
A 2022 ranking of most-hated states puts Delaware at 39.
Pennsylvania was slightly more hated by its residents, coming in at 24.
New Jersey was, somewhat unsurprisingly, second on the list.
