Despite having to cancel her 2022 tour after being diagnosed with stiff person syndrome — a rare, progressive neurological disorder that causes muscle rigidity, spasms, mobility issues, and shortness of breath — the five-time GRAMMY winner is on a quest to regain control of her voice and take the stage to perform again.

Her newly-released documentary shows the excruciating pain and physical challenges the icon is up against as the camera crews capture her encounter with a body spasm. The hard-to-watch event takes place as Dion attends a regularly scheduled physical therapy appointment.

Beginning in her foot, the pain then expands causing her body to lock up. Dion weeps from pain while her team works quickly around her to administer care, ready to call in first responders if things progress.

"Every time something like this happens, it makes you feel so embarrassed," Dion shared of the mental toll the episodes take. "I don't know how to express it ... you don't like to not have control of yourself, you know?"

While the moments of pain are deeply personal and hard for many viewers to see, Dion was adamant that her toughest moments were not left out of the documentary so fans could see exactly how hard she is fighting to return to the stage once again.

“If I can’t run, I’ll walk,” she said of her determination to make a return. “If I can’t walk, I’ll crawl — but I won’t stop.”

Find out more about Celine Dion’s diagnosis, battle and [lans to return to performing by watching her new documentary, I Am: Celine Dion , now streaming exclusively on Prime Video.
