However, a short seven years later, the German engineering and electronics company Bosch created the first fuel-injection motorcycle. It was called the Munch Mammoth, and it would eventually change the motorcycle landscape forever. Motorcycle companies didn't immediately adopt this new technology into their bikes, though, and the Munch Mammoth's cost was discouraging to buyers.

The original North American Ford Escort was based (somewhat loosely) on its European cousin and was sold from the 1981 through 1990 model years. After that, the mighty Ford Empire turned to its Japanese ally, Mazda, for the Escort's platform and that's where it remained until the final ZX2 Escort coupes were sold here as 2003 models. I've neglected those early Mazda-based Escorts in this series up until now, so here's one found in a Colorado car graveyard recently.

Among the many unique and interesting models Ford has sold in North America over the years, the Merkur XR4Ti certainly ranks near the top, even if it is just a European Ford Sierra XR4Ti converted for sale in the U.S. After selling quite well early on, the Merkur XR4Ti wound up falling out of favor ahead of its final year on sale in America back in 1989, but we still see nice examples pop up for sale from time to time. That’s certainly the case with this 1985 Merkur XR4Ti, but it’s also a far cry from stock.
