Cool & crisp tonight, strong storm chances return this weekend

Tonight features mostly clear skies in what will be a cool and crisp night as temperatures dip back into the upper 50s. This is not a bad night to give the AC a break and use a little ‘natural’ AC from Mother Nature!
Friday brings the heat back into the picture as our area of high pressure from Thursday shifts east. We’ll pick up a southerly flow, which will bring the heat and the humidity back into the region. That combination in addition to a stalled frontal boundary over the Carolinas will be enough to pop an isolated shower or two in the late afternoon with highs in the mid 80s.
Saturday provides the returning risk for scattered showers and storms, mainly in the afternoon, with another system pushing through with a warm front lifting north in the morning and a cold front approaching late in the day. There should be plenty of dry time for the day but by the afternoon, storms will be scattered with highs temperatures in the mid 80s. Some storms could produce gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall. The Storm Prediction Center has placed our region in a level one risk for severe weather.
Sunday continues our risk for scattered showers and storms, with the best chance for storms around lunchtime as a cold front passes through. That will cool temperatures a little for the second half of the weekend into the start of next week with highs in the low 80s Sunday. Some storms could once again produce heavy rainfall.
Monday will be dry and comfy with low humidity and much cooler temperatures with high pressure once again in control. We’ll see high temperatures stuck in the 70s for highs and overnight lows dropping into the low to mid 50s as we see a little break from the heat and humidity.
Tuesday keeps the sunshine going and we’ll be a little more summer-like once again as high temperatures jump back up into the mid 80s.
Wednesday sees partly sunny skies, but an increase in humidity will spark an isolated shower or two in the afternoon with high temperatures in the upper 80s.
The 4th of July looks solid with plenty of heat and humidity creating a typical summertime day. With the heat and humidity a few natural fireworks from Mother Nature will be possible with an isolated storm or two in the afternoon and high temperatures in the upper 80s.
Looking ahead in your extended forecast, we’ll see temperatures very summer-like but not as hot as what we’ve seen recently. A combination of heat and humidity will provide at least the chance for a few thunderstorms in the atmosphere with high temperatures remaining in the 80s.
