PERMIAN BASIN (KMID/KPEJ) – CASA of West Texas announced on Thursday that it is expanding their seven county service to 10 counties, which will now include Pecos, Reeves, and Brewster Counties, stating there were approximately 50 children in care in these three counties last year.

With this new expansion, CASA of West Texas will now serve Midland, Howard, Dawson, Gaines, Andrews, Martin, Glasscock, Pecos, Reeves, and Brewster Counties.

“It is a bigger challenge serving a larger area, but I am confident in our team at CASA of West Texas. We will continue to provide quality advocacy for every child in our new and current service area. We will work hard to provide the best advocacy possible and serve 100% of the youth that need us in the Trans-Pecos,” said Executive Director Patty Pislak.

CASA or Court Appointed Special Advocate’s mission is to provide volunteers who provide quality advocacy for children experiencing the foster care system.

“No child should have to walk alone through a confusing child welfare system. These children have so many people coming in and out of their lives. They deserve someone who will show up for them again and again. That is why I am excited we are expanding our service area. I am happy that the children of the Trans-Pecos Area will have volunteers they can count on to lift their voices,” said Volunteer Recruiter Ariel Sanchez.

CASAs are appointed by judges to serve the “best interest” of the child. In doing so, the job of CASA is to become acquainted with every aspect of the child’s life, talking to parents, teachers, physicians, counselors, etc. to determine what the best long-term placement for the child is.

For more information, please contact Ariel Sanchez at 432-266-1750 or 432-683-1114 or visit the CASA of West Texas website here.
