Following a series of TikToks from YouTuber Brooke Schofield that blasted Clinton Kane for being a “master manipulator” and lying about his mother’s death, the singer is now denying her accusations. He claims that he had been referencing the death of a “mother-like figure” all along.

“Clinton Kane and Brooke Schofield had a brief, three-month relationship over two years ago,” reads a statement sent to Rolling Stone . “Brooke’s recent comments regarding Clinton are untrue.”

The statement comes a day after Schofield made a 14-part TikTok series where she shared the story of how she met Kane. She described a tumultuous relationship and accused the singer of lying about the deaths of his family members, including his mother and brother.

In her videos, Schofield claimed that Kane tried to get an interview scrubbed from the internet after people commented that he was lying about his mom’s death and that his mother was living in the Philippines. Schofield also claimed Kane had told her he grew up with his mother in a mansion in Australia, that she was Norwegian, blonde, and a Hillsong pastor, and that he had been neglected by her during his childhood. “His mom is Asian as is he. Why would you lie about that?” Schofield said in the video. “I could tell that he’s an extreme pathological liar.”

In Thursday’s statement, the rep says that the “mother” he referred to in the interview with Sang was actually “a very special mother-like figure in his teenage years, who sadly passed,” not his biological mother, as was assumed. The statement from the rep did not address any other details of Schofield described.

“Clinton regrets the way this devastating news was communicated at the time,” reads the statement. “Clinton genuinely felt that he had lost an irreplaceable mother figure. Clinton was and largely is estranged from his immediate family.”

In another video, Schofield shared a clip from one of her fights with Kane where he does not seem to have an Australian accent. She also claims that he showed a police officer a fake Australian ID with a different age once when he was being pulled over. In Thursday’s statement, Kane’s rep says he lived in Australia “for a time as a child” and “considers Australia to be home.” “He has never been disingenuous about this,” the statement read.

In several videos, Schofield accused Kane of being controlling and refusing to let her leave his side. She shared that during one trip, he was “triggered” by the fact that she was on her phone during dinner because his mother would not pay attention to him as a kid. Schofield claims Kane would tell her she should be “more sensitive” to his trauma.

“It became a situation where I was mothering this man and if I did anything wrong … he went ballistic because he was an infant baby child,” she claimed. “It was way too much for me to handle.”

Schofield also accused Kane of cheating on her and alleges that he had cheated on his ex with her as well. “I could never have imagined he was capable of doing that given how romantic and a love bomber he was,” Schofield claimed. “He’s a master manipulator.”

After they broke up, Schofield says she confronted Kane and that he admitted to making up his mother’s and brothers’ deaths. “There are one of three that are dead, but the rest are still kicking,” she said in the video. Kane’s rep statement does not address Schofield’s allegation that Kane’s brother is alive.

“The public rehashing of these details is only an attempt to bring attention and focus on Brooke’s podcast, at the expense of tearing down another former boyfriend — a tactic she’s become known for,” read the statement from Kane’s rep. “In the years since this relationship took place, Clinton has moved forward, and remains focused and committed to putting out new music.”

Schofield’s recent videos about her relationship with Kane came after he started promoting a new single, out Friday, by posting a video with a caption supposedly about her: “When you’ve been over the relationship for 2 years but she won’t stop yapping.”
