Vehicle inspection leads to child sex crimes arrest in Tangipahoa Parish

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. ( WGNO ) — A New York man was arrested in Tangipahoa Parish after a vehicle inspection led to a child sexual exploitation investigation on Wednesday, June 26.

The Louisiana State Police reports that troopers were performing a routine commercial motor vehicle inspection around 4:30 p.m. on Interstate 12 near Louisiana Highway 1249, when they interviewed 33-year-old Harpeet Singh and an unidentified juvenile.

LSP officials said troopers got a warrant for Singh’s arrest following additional interviews after contacting LSP Special Victims Unit investigators based on initial statements.

Singh was arrested and faces charges of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behavior with juveniles.

LSP officials said the investigation is ongoing, and the juvenile has been “released into the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services.”
