One of the biggest surprises of the 2024 NBA Draft was the fall of Duke forward Kyle Filipowski.

Filipowski, a skilled 7-foot big man, two-time All-ACC selection and All-American in 2024, was projected as a first-round pick by many accounts. In the first year of a two-day draft, Filipowski did not hear his name called on Day 1 and was selected by the Jazz with the No. 32 overall pick — the second pick of the second round.

In between Rounds 1 and 2, ESPN NBA Draft expert Jonathan Givony appeared on Zach Lowe's "Lowe Post" podcast to explain Filipowski's situation.

"The workouts weren't great," Givony said," people tell me there were question marks about the interviews — they said he was nervous, he didn't make shots at the pro day, what's going on with his girlfriend? … He has an older girlfriend, she's like 25 or 26 and people are like, 'Ahh, this is weird' … he doesn't talk to his parents."

Givony spoke more on the situation again during the broadcast of the second round of the NBA Draft, adding that Filipowski was one of the most talented players available before Utah ultimately took him 32nd.

Here is more on Filipowski's slide in the draft.

    Kyle Filipowski draft slide

Filipowski was viewed as one of the top prospects in the 2024 NBA Draft. The Sporting News' Kyle Irving rated Filipowski as the 24th-best prospect and he was one of 20 prospects invited to the Green Room, an honor usually reserved for prospects slated to go in the first round.

Despite projections to be a first-round pick, Filipowski was selected with the 32nd pick by the Jazz.

    Who is Kyle Filipowski's girlfriend?

Filipowski's partner's name is Caitlin Hutchison. In April, she posted an Instagram photo of the two with the caption, "Four months since the happiest yes I'll ever say" and a ring emoji, suggesting the two are engaged to be married.

Based on social media posts, Hutchison graduated from the University of Alabama in the winter of 2018. It is unclear when she and Filipowski began their relationship, but their first Instagram post together is at his senior prom. Filipowski graduated from high school in 2022.

    Kyle Filipowski age

Filipowski is 20 years old. He was born on Nov. 7, 2003, and will turn 21 during his rookie season.

    Kyle Filipowski parents

Filipowski's parents are Dave and Rebecca Filipowski. Both of his parents enjoyed basketball careers in college.

Filipowski's father, Dave, played collegiately at Slippery Rock University from 1979 to 1981. His mother, Rebecca, played at Long Beach State from 1982 to 1984.

Does Kyle Filipowski talk to his family?

It is unclear how much contact Filipowski has with his family, if any.

Filipowski has three brothers: older brothers Daniel and Taylor and a twin brother, Matthew. An X account that appears to belong to Filipowski's brother Daniel has shared an account of the developing situation between his younger brother, Hutchison and the rest of the Filipowski family.

In what he calls a "story that has been pushed under the table for nearly two years now," Daniel Filipowski alleges , "[Hutchison] forced him to cut us off from his life almost two years ago. Sent us an email and everything. Basically the official 'goodbye letter.'"
